Privacy Policy

How we handle your personal information plainly explained.

This policy is provided in good faith and is general information, not legal advice. Last updated: 13 June 2026.

1. Who We Are and What This Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy applies to The Trustee for Qurtubah Trust & Qurtubah Holdings Pty Ltd (ABN 58 410 569 910), trading as CIEA Centre for Islamic Economics Australia ("CIEA", "we", "us", "our").

This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and how we handle it. CIEA is not a registered charity and its annual turnover is under A$3 million. This means we are not automatically covered by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Nevertheless, we choose to align our practices with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) as a matter of good practice, because we think it's the right way to treat people.

2. What We Collect and Why

We only collect what we actually need:

  • Your name and email address to respond to enquiries you send us and to send you updates you have explicitly asked to receive.
  • Areas of interest if you register interest in CIEA Academy, we ask which topics interest you so we can send relevant information.

We do not collect sensitive information such as your religious beliefs, health information, or financial details through our website forms.

3. How We Collect It

We collect personal information only when you actively provide it by filling in a contact form, an Academy interest form, or a newsletter sign-up on this website. We do not purchase data lists or collect information through tracking technologies beyond what Netlify (our hosting provider) logs by default.

4. Who We Share It With and Overseas Storage

We rely on the following US-based providers to run our forms, email communications and hosting. Your information passes through or is stored with these services:

  • Resend delivers contact form submissions to our inbox
  • Kit (formerly ConvertKit) manages our email updates and newsletters, and stores a record of people who have contacted us (these contact records are not sent marketing without separate consent)
  • Netlify hosts this website
  • Cloudflare stores and serves website content and media

Because these providers are based in the United States, your information is stored there and may be subject to US laws that can compel disclosure (for example, to law enforcement). We have taken reasonable steps to select reputable providers and satisfy ourselves that they handle personal information appropriately, but we cannot guarantee the same protections that would apply under Australian law.

5. Email Updates and Your Consent

We only send marketing or newsletter emails to people who have explicitly ticked a consent box on one of our forms. If you change your mind:

  • Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
  • We will action all unsubscribe requests within five business days.
  • You can also email support@ciea.com.au to unsubscribe at any time.

Unsubscribing from marketing emails will not affect our ability to send you transactional messages directly related to a specific enquiry you made.

6. Keeping Your Information Secure

This website uses HTTPS throughout, so information you submit is encrypted in transit. We use reputable third-party providers (listed in Section 4) and limit access to your personal information to the people who genuinely need it. No security measure is perfect, but we take reasonable precautions.

7. Accessing or Correcting Your Information

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct something that is wrong. Just email support@ciea.com.au and we will respond within a reasonable time.

8. Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first at support@ciea.com.au. We will do our best to resolve it promptly.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

9. Data Breaches

If we become aware of a data breach involving your personal information, we will assess the situation promptly. Where required by law, or where we judge it appropriate, we will notify affected individuals and the OAIC as soon as reasonably practicable.

10. No Automated Decision-Making

We do not use automated decision-making processes that would produce a legal or similarly significant effect on you.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of the page. We encourage you to check back occasionally if you have an ongoing relationship with us.
